Paver Patio

Here are some general guidelines for pricing when it comes to paver patios, based upon dozens of projects we do each year in Skagit County. These are rough ranges only due to the below variable, but you can receive an exact quote for your project.

350 Sq Ft of Patio
Cost of Pavers: $1,400-2,000
Cost of Other Materials: $200-600
Cost of Labor: $2,600-6,000
Total Project Cost: $4,200 – $8,600

1,200 Sq Ft of Patio
Cost of Pavers: $4,800-$7,000
Cost of Other Materials: $400-900
Cost of Labor: $3,000-8,000
Total Project Cost: $8,200 – $15,900

Here are some of the variables that will affect the price of a paver patio project:

Grade/slope/elevation Ideally, a patio is going to be flat. Retaining walls or other measures may be needed if the patio is to be positioned on uneven terrain.

Excavation for base In order to create a 4-8 inch base of compacted gravel it may be required to excavate existing base or soil. Hauling this soil off-site is an added expense

Base soil type For traditional pavers, crushed gravel is compacted and then sand installed for a base. Some paver styles require deeper gravel bases and clear crushed gravel for drainage purposes.

Ease of access to the site If the entire project is in the backyard of a gated area, this will increase the time it takes to excavate soil, prep the site, and will limit the type of machinery to be used.

Type and style of paver There is a wide variety of paver colors and shapes. Typical costs for pavers range from $4-6 per square foot.

Design of different paver sizes Complicated circles or designs add to the labor of a project. Some paver projects have 3-5 different shapes of pavers that are installed in a pattern. The more complex the pattern, the more time is required for installation. Polysand is used for the joints of the pavers and can also affect the cost of a project depending on color and quantity.

Shape of the patio (curved vs straight) Circular and bending patios required a lot more cutting of the pavers and increase the time of installation. Straight-edged patios require less cutting since most common pavers are rectangular or square in shape.
